I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and no doubt you have all settled into 2019 by now.
We had a busy and lovely Christmas here and spent most of January Settling back to normality after all the festivities. The residents enjoyed music nearly every day from our usual wonderful live music and also local groups such as Valda, The Shanty Singers, The Wexford Male Voice Choir and more and a few carols from the local schools Murrintown, Tagoat, Barntown and The Mercier Children, We can’t say a big enough thank you to every single one of those people. They were wonderful surprises for the residents. Santa Came in to visit during the Residents Christmas Party on the afternoon of the 18th and we had a right old day.
A big thank you all for all your Cards and Generous Chocolates which we have all be working off now for the last few weeks. Your all very kind and thoughtful.
We have a robust activities programme planned for all the residents for the coming year and we just wanted to make you aware of a few dates for the coming months which we know so far.
- Valentine’s day on the 14th of February will be celebrated in house, Catriona will be hosting a tea room throughout the day, if you would like to bring your resident down and enjoy a cuppa in a festive ambiance, head for the Parlour in Coolballow.
- St Patrick’s day will be celebrated over the weekend of the 17th of March and we plan to have a few singsongs throughout the weekend in true Irish spirit.
- In April we are planning an Easter egg hunt for the resident’s and their grandchildren. This will be weather permitting but hopefully on Tuesday the 23rd of April at 2pm we will be out exploring the garden for an Easter egg hunt followed by a cuppa after the excitement. We hope you can pencil it in and bring all the grandchildren along.
- The Annual Alzheimer’s Tea Party Fundraiser will be held on Thursday t
he 2nd of May this year. This is a tea morning to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s society of Ireland work very closely with the local community and provide support for both people living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia and their loved ones. If you are free in the morning, please pop into the training room between 9.30 and 12.30 for a cuppa, a slice of something sweet and a chat, everyone’s welcome!!
We hope we have come through the worst of Flu season at this stage but there are flu’s still circulating in the local community. We would ask that you would be mindful when coming in to visit your loved ones. Please ensure to use the hand sanitizer’s before entering, when in the house and when leaving the building to prevent as much spread of bacteria as possible. If you are feeling unwell or maybe have a flu, please make sure you are well before coming in so as not to put the resident’s at risk of picking up the infection. Many thanks for your diligence during this time.
We would also be great advocates for the take up of the Flu Vaccine which is a great preventative measure against the strains of Flu which are live in our community at the moment. Getting the flu vaccine is not only to protect ourselves but to also protect the people around us so please consider getting your annual vaccine.
Another gentle reminder of our fluffy friends, Tiny and Toby. Please do not feed the house dogs as they do get fed daily and it is important that they are not overfed.
As most have you will have noticed, we have started painting our corridors. We have planned to give the majority of the house a freshen up this year. This will take some time and we hope to complete the house over the course of the next few months. We hope you will bear with us and excuse our appearance during this time. Fingers crossed you will love our fresh new look once finished.
If you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to speak to any of the staff here in Kerlogue. Everyone is more than happy to help in any way they can and will point you in the right direction if they are not the right person. If you would like to make an appointment to speak to Mary or Julia, please ask at reception and they can then make sure to have time to sit down with you to discuss any concerns or issues and to go through care plans for your resident with you during the year when you are free.
We do greatly appreciate any suggestions you may have day to day. There is a suggestions box located in the entrance hall outside reception so please don’t be shy. Any chance to further improve our home we would love your feedback.
Finally, a big thanks for all your ongoing support.
